Just over a year ago the largest grocery store chain in New England announced that they were going to close underperforming stores, and shortly after four Connecticut Stop & Shop Supermarkets were gone. Here we go again.

According to nbcconnecticut.com, the Stop & Shop located at 215 East Main Street in Clinton has been deemed underperforming and will shut its doors for good by the end of 2026. According to the report the company has decided to not renew the lease, but all of the employees at the Clinton market will have an opportunity to work at other locations. For the poor souls that live in the immediate area of the Clinton store, there is a Shop Rite and a Big Y within a couple of miles.

This is My Experience Over the Last 14 Months Without My Local Stop & Shop

Remember earlier when I told you that 4 Stop & Shop stores closed 14 months ago? One of the was the closest market near my place in Torrington. As of Halloween 2024, it shut down. At first, I wasn't too bothered by it, Torrington has another Stop & Shop, a Market 32, a Big Y, Price Rite, and Target and Walmart. But, it's 2025, and convenience is king, and it was nicer to drive a half a mile to shop instead of the three or four miles I have currently.

In fairness, I do have to say that I have enjoyed the Litchfield Stop & Shop a lot more than the Torrington-High Street market, it's so much cleaner.
