In 2021, Amazon announced plans to open one of their "Fresh" stores in Brookfield, CT.

The location was supposed to open their doors in September of 2021 and then there were supply chain issues and that got pushed back. Here we are, on the tail end of 2023 and there is still no Amazon Fresh Store in Brookfield.

I've written countless articles about the delays and we've asked questions to any and everyone who might know something. We always get the same two answers, we're either told the opening date is right around the corner or there is nothing to report. At this point I find the topic comical the longer this drags on, the funnier it is.

We took another crack at the subject on the Monday (10/30/23) edition of the I-95 Morning Show with our guest Tara Carr, Brookfield's First Selectman. Not only is Tara running the town but she used to work for Amazon so if anyone would know something it would be her.

Lou: What about the Amazon Fresh store? What the hell?

Carr: "I am sorry to report, there is no update."

Lou: Oh my God! This is ridiculous!

Carr: "Have you been following that their business model wasn't working for them? Yeah, so many locations across the country are sitting idle in the same way. ours is here in Brookfield."

Lou: I read somewhere that it's cheaper for the company (Amazon) to leave the stores idle than it is to abandon the plan altogether. But what I can't understand is their insistence, continually telling us it's coming soon. We're not children, we can see it's just not working.

Carr: "Right, well there has been a shift there too, strangely because as recent as last Thursday we reached out to them for an update and we've been ignored. So, I'm not sure what is going on. I'll try again this week."

Lou: You worked for them, in your experience is this what they were like? Are they secretive and slow?

Carr: "Yes slow and we've talked about this before, for me it wasn't the ideal place to work. I think if I was 30 and single I'd be more interested but everything in the warehouses happens at night now. As far as Amazon Fresh goes, I'm not sure what that all entails, I've never been to one. I don't know if they even have any that are open in our area."

Danbury Bennigan's Building Gets Torn Down

Bennigan's Restaurant has been closed for many years in Danbury, Connecticut but the building has remained empty. Hat City residents have had to stare at the eyesore for far too long in a prominent location at 106 Federal Road. Today, (3/23/21) the building was taken down and I-95 was there to witness it and captures these exclusive images.

Vacant Brookfield Properties Give Me the Creeps

Brookfield Connecticut is a beautiful New England town with picturesque landscapes and architecture. It does have one section of road that is about a mile long, that time has forgotten. When the highway got extended, the life started to drain from this portion of Federal Road and COVID-19 put the finishing touches on any business that was hanging on for dear life. There are supposed to be people in these places, that's why they were made. The absence of humanity in these spaces makes them tragic and chilling.
