2 Shirtless Danbury Heavyweights Chill Out at the Champ’s House
What in the blue f--- is going on here?
It appears to be two dudes swimming in the world's smallest pool but it's the dudes in question that make this photo ultra intriguing.
Glover Teixeira is the former UFC Heavyweight Champion of the world and Dean Esposito is the Mayor of Danbury, CT. The only thing they appear to have in common is they are Hat City residents but they can add ice bath enthusiasts to their shared interests.
The Mayor knows I'm a sports fan, he also knows I like to write about the unusual so it made perfect sense that he sent me this photo last week along with a text that read:
"Chilling out, Ice Bath at Glover's house and it was 39 degrees."
I asked him why he did this and he replied:
"Mike McGetrick called me out. He's a black belt in Jiujitsu and I beat him I lasted 6 minutes."
McGetrick is a local lawyer and the Mayor's longtime friend who also happens to be pals with Texeiria. Mayor Esposito told me he could not back down from McGetrick's challenge.
The Mayor met Glover back when he won the UFC Heavyweight Championship of the World.
The city hosted a variety of celebrations to honor the champ.
In case you didn't know I think it's important to say that Mayor Esposito was a standout athlete in high school. So we have a former high school ball hawk, a black belt in Jiujitsu and one of the preeminent fighters in the world with some free time on their hands, that always ends the same. When athletes get bored, they compete at everything.

P.S. Ice baths are not dangerous for most people, they are actually healthy and super popular in pro sports. According to Good RX, these are some of the health benefits associated with ice baths:
- Reduces inflammation and swelling
- Relieves sore muscles
- Aids exercise recovery
- Lowers core body temperature
- Supports immunity
- Improves mental health
Good RX adds: "The cold-water plunges pose a risk to people with certain conditions. So it's important to speak to your healthcare provider first." So make sure to check with your doctor before you try this and have a heart attack. You're not blaming me frosty face!
