Pat McGann Talks Parenting and Youth Sports Ahead of CT & NY Shows
We had the chance to catch up with stand-up comedian Pat McGann, who’s bringing his tour right to our area with shows at the SHU Community Theatre in Fairfield on April 11th and the Tarrytown Music Hall on April 12th. If you’ve seen him before, you already know—he’s been Sebastian Maniscalco’s go-to opener for years, performing in everything from small clubs to sold-out arenas like Madison Square Garden.

Pat’s also got a great comedy special, “When’s Mom Gonna Be Home?”, where he leans into life as a dad, relationships, and all the chaos that comes with it.
At one point, Pat mentioned he’s a big basketball fan—and a full-on basketball dad—so that immediately got us going. Dave had just been talking about that insane UConn buzzer-beater over Duke, and before you know it, the conversation turned into a deep dive on youth sports, parenting, and the chaos that comes with it.
Pat: "Like I said, I love hoops. Like I said, I’ve been coaching my boys. I have two sons, 7th and 5th grade. One of them is on a B-team, which—I don’t know if you guys follow 7th and 5th grade B-teams—but that is a real team. That is like some energy. These kids, that is—they don’t give an F. They come in every day, they just work on their half-court shots—that is all they do. They come in, they just launch it from here. Maybe I should travel first. You know, someone else can dribble. But the March Madness has been awesome. Congratulations to you guys."
Lou: None of the kids can move without the ball. That’s the other thing—they are all in one big cluster next to each other.
Pat: "Oh yeah, that’s the only time they huddle up. They can’t huddle on the sidelines—they cannot form a huddle—but you see them cluster up on the floor. Yeah, you’re right, they are just a magnet for the ball. But yeah, it’s been a good time. The kids with the sports is nuts. You know, I’ve got another one playing hockey, and he had to try out at 10 years old. And do you know what the tryout was? Can you come up with $3,000? Yeah, he told me, “Dad, I made the team.” I’m like, “I know—I got the fraud alert from Chase.”
