Here is how The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration defines a Bombogenesis:

"A popular term used by meteorologists, occurs when a midlatitude cyclone rapidly intensifies, dropping at least 24 millibars over 24 hours. A millibar measures atmospheric pressure. This can happen when a cold air mass collides with a warm air mass, such as air over warm ocean waters. The formation of this rapidly strengthening weather system is a process called bombogenesis, which creates what is known as a bomb cyclone."

Cool story, bro. I'm 38 and have lived in the Northeast almost my whole life. I've never heard of Bombogenesis before, and never heard of a Bomb Cyclone. I'm sure it's a popular term that meteorologists use, I'm certain of it. They use it all the time and hit us with it this week for the first time?

I'll take your word for it, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. It's actually not at all a problem for me. Weathermen shooting this term around has really boosted sales of my hit single "Bambo #5."
