What Realistically Can You Do With an Extra Hour Overnight in Connecticut?
Daylight Savings Time ends this Sunday, November 3, 2024 at 2AM, we're getting an extra hour back as we 'Fall back'. If you wanted to take advantage of this extra hour of your time at 2AM on a Saturday, what could you do in Connecticut?
We are not Manhattan or Boston, Connecticut is absolutely not stuffed with cities that never sleep. Gas stations close down for the night, so do most fast-food joionts, you may find a 24-hour diner if you're lucky. Bars in Connecticut close at 2AM on the weekend, but if you were counting on that extra hour of booze, don't, the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection has already sent out notices that 2AM is still closing time, even through Daylight Savings Time.
The true 24-hour businesses in Connecticut are few and far between. Off the top of my head, Cumberland Farms operates 24-hour locations in some, but not all, of our bigger cities. Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods? They're true 24-hour non-stop locations. The only thing that has ever shut either down is the pandemic. Both would be a great choice to try to spend an extra hour of daylight, but at 2AM on a Saturday, you may not find a sit-down restaurant open, but there will be plenty of slots to occupy your time.
Do you enjoy grocery shopping during the overnight hours? Not in Connecticut, most close by 11PM. CVS and Walgreens operate 24-hour locations throughout our state, and a few diners like Elmer's in Danbury, or Blue Colony in Newtown still sling the hash at 4AM.
Casinos, Diners, the truck stops on I-84 and I-95, CVS or Walgreens. The pickings are slim Connecticut, choose wisely.
