Danbury Women Gather for Conversation, Connection and Community

According to a release from the City of Danbury, Candlewood Lake Park recently provided the backdrop for an afternoon focused on women, community, and some pretty meaningful conversations.

The event was a Picnic & Panel hosted by The Young Women’s Initiative, bringing women from around the community together for an afternoon that was part picnic, part discussion, and part opportunity to connect with other people. And honestly, if you can get people outside on a nice day, give them some food and let them talk about things that actually matter, that sounds like a pretty good afternoon.

The panel featured Iandra Lopes, Lindy Lee Gold and Taylor Jean O’Brien, who serves as Chief of Staff for the City of Danbury. The speakers shared their own experiences and perspectives while discussing topics centered around women and their place in the community.

O’Brien has been working for the City of Danbury for nearly ten years and recently made some local history. Under Mayor Roberto Alves’ administration, she became the first woman ever appointed Chief of Staff in Danbury.

That is a pretty significant milestone for the city, and events like this give people an opportunity to hear directly from women who have taken on leadership roles and carved out their own paths.

The city also gave a shout-out to Giovanna Mastelari, the founder of The Young Women’s Initiative, along with the Danbury Recreation Department, vendors, sponsors and everyone else who helped put the event together.

So, Candlewood Lake Park wasn't just about enjoying the scenery this time around. It was also the setting for an afternoon of networking, conversation, encouragement and celebrating women who are making an impact right here in the Danbury community.
