According to Connecticut State Police, a trooper from Troop G in Bridgeport spotted a car traveling the wrong way on I-95 early Tuesday morning, June 10, 2025, around 2:13 AM. The vehicle was reportedly heading south in the northbound lanes near Exit 27A.

Authorities say the driver then swerved across all three lanes and merged onto the Exit 27A off-ramp toward Route 8 northbound, allegedly coming dangerously close to several other vehicles. The trooper pulled the car over and identified the driver as 24-year-old Benjamin Mitchell of Ansonia.

Police say Mitchell had watery, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and appeared confused when asked basic questions. He allegedly told the trooper he had missed his exit and made a U-turn on the highway to correct his route. Based on signs of possible impairment, the trooper administered field sobriety tests, which Mitchell reportedly failed.
