Vacation Ready: Connecticut Airport Announces Nonstop Service to Jamaica
Air travel between Connecticut and Jamaica has always involved a stop, or you just gave up and booked your direct flight out of JFK or LaGuardia, right? Rejoice weary traveler, for the first time ever, soon there's going to be year-round, non-stop weekly flights between Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks and Donald Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
The Governor of Connecticut, Ned Lamont, has just announced that as of December 15, 2022, Spirit Airlines will start offering 4 non-stop flights a week between Bradley and MoBay. This is the first time that any airline service has offered a non-stop flight to Jamaica out of Bradley. The Governor's statement goes on to say that Connecticut is home to over 56,000 residents of Jamaican ancestry, and the partnership between Spirit, Bradley came to fruition after a huge effort from state officials and advocates.
I've flown to Montego Bay once on Air Jamaica out of Kennedy in New York City. On the way back, we had to take a quick connector flight from Montego Bay to Kingston, before flying back to JFK. That process took hours, and the MoBay Airport is nice, but they don't have the modern conveniences of JFK. You know that feeling, 5 days of being in that incredible sun, all you want to do is get home quickly.
Direct flights allow more time with families, extra hours of that powerful sun. The term I remember most from my time in Jamaica is respect. I heard it often being used as a high compliment. In that spirit - Respect Bradley, Governor Lamont, and Spirit Airlines.
