Is It Okay to Not Wear Masks in Greater Danbury Businesses?

Are you wondering, as I am, where masking is still required in Greater Danbury and where it's optional?

The answer to that question is, "It depends." What we do know is that on May 13, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published new guidelines regarding the wearing of masks according to an article on cnbc.com, which states;

1. Fully vaccinated people no longer need to wear a face mask or stay 6 feet away from others in most settings, both indoors or outdoors.
2. Masks must be worn in a healthcare setting or any business that requires them, even if you are fully vaccinated.
3. Masks must be worn on airplanes, buses, trains, and other public transportation.
4. Fully vaccinated individuals can participate in indoor and outdoor activities, large or small, without a mask.
5. People who have not been vaccinated should continue to wear a mask.

For over a year, most of us in the greater Danbury area have become accustomed to having a mask at our fingertips, so we're able to slip it on before we're out of the car walking into the grocery store.

Even with the new CDC guidelines, I have yet to see anyone in the greater Danbury area not wearing a mask in a place of business. According to a recent article written by Currie Engel for the Danbury Newstimes, most business owners she spoke with told her they were leaving the decision of wearing or not wearing a mask to their customers.

Still, other questions remain: Should businesses ask for proof of vaccination as in "vaccine passports?" According to the website healthline.com, Japan and China are already on board with the passports. Still, the United States hasn't announced a plan for "proof of vaccination" but, several companies in the U.S. are developing vaccine certificates for smartphone apps.
