While this project on I-84 in Waterbury is moving along, the completion really can't come fast enough for most commuters. Get ready for more overnight closures and detours.

If you commute daily on the I-84 corridor through Waterbury, or just drive through that area on occasion, you're well aware of the major reconstruction project that started back in 2015 and according to the major projects updates found on ct.gov/dot is slated to end in June of 2020. Yeah, I'll let that sink in for awhile. Two more years of work to come.

With that in mind, you need to be aware of a major closure coming up over the next few days. Here is the press release from the Connecticut Department of Transportation

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that there will be an I-84 westbound closure and detour at the Exit 23 off-ramp, for three nights, to facilitate structural steel installation on the Hamilton Avenue Bridge.

Here is the times of closure and detour information:

I-84 westbound detour at westbound Exit 23 off-ramp details are as follows:
Tuesday through Thursday nights, January 30 through February 1
Time: from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM

Detour Route:
Exit WB I-84 via WB Exit 23 off-ramp
Right at the end of the ramp onto Hamilton Avenue
Straight onto Union Street (Hamilton Avenue becomes Union Street)
Stay in left lanes on Union Street for ramp to re-enter WB I-84 (towards Danbury)

Lane closures on I-84 Westbound will be in effect on the above dates from 9:30 PM to 11:00 PM, and from 5:00 AM to 6:00 AM.

Keep in mind that the DOT site says that if inclement weather causes postponement, work will be done the following night.

I made my daily commute through the area this morning, and even though the weather was what I would consider inclement, you could see workers already setting up for this major work.
