Target Shuts Down ALL CT Locations For One Day — Everything You Need to Know
As we head into the holiday season, Target has announced it will once again close its doors on Thanksgiving Day in 2024. The decision, which started in 2020 during the pandemic, has turned into a tradition that’s sticking around.
And according to a Target press release from last November, CEO, Brian Cornell, it’s all about giving employees the chance to enjoy the holiday with their families, adding:
"Once we heard how much our team appreciated having Thanksgiving off, it was an easy decision to make it permanent."
Cornell said. After a few years of seeing the positive impact on staff, Target decided that closing on Thanksgiving was the right move, especially for such a family-centered holiday.
But it’s not just about keeping employees happy. Target’s business model has evolved in a way that makes it possible to stay closed while still delivering on customer needs. Basically, what they are saying is, with curbside pickup and online shopping they're still taking in enough revenue that they can take a day off.
Let's go America! Finally, it seems that some people do get it. We don't have to be consumers 365 days a year. We need time to take a breath of fresh air, drink three bottles of wine, eat a metric f-- ton of stuffing and pass out on the couch at 2 pm. How is shopping better than that?
It’s not just Target that’s closing its doors this Thanksgiving. More and more retailers are opting to give their employees the day off. Here are some other major retailers taking the day off.
- Walmart
- Best Buy
- Sam’s Club
- PetSmart
- Burlington
If we're lucky we get 70-75 of these holidays, why would anyone want to waste one of them in a Target store?
