Salmon Could Host COVID-19 for Over a Week According to Science
According to Bloomberg, Chinese researchers say that SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, collected from salmon samples could live on the fish for eight days.
The South China Agricultural University and Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Guangzhou took the samples and realized that the salmon could play host to the virus for up to eight days if it's stored 4 degrees Celsius (39 degrees Fahrenheit), which is right around the ideal temperature to store salmon.
The Chinese government has been looking into imported fish and meat as a COVID-19 source since June. As of Monday, China banned imports from 19 countries and 56 companies.
This sounds like it could be bad. I don't know the reputation of the South China Agricultural University and Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Guangzhou, but I smell something fishy and problematic in the waters.
I could sit here and say I don't mess with salmon (and that is true), but I have to imagine that if it can live on salmon, it could attach itself and live on cod or any number of fish I enjoy.
There is also another way to look at this, POTUS can't call this the "China Virus" enough, he has to say it twelve times a day. Maybe "Jina" as he calls it, would like to blame imported fish for the breakout.
All I see are good times on the horizon, everyone is happy, healthy, employed, getting along and COVID juices are not coating our fish. Oh, wait, it's the opposite, things are bad, my bad. Keep your head on a swivel kids, life is tricky.
