It's been a year and a half, January of 2019, since Stepney Hardware closed their doors at 590 Main Street (Rt. 25) in Monroe. It was announced back in September that a new, family-owned hardware store was in the works to take it's place by the end of 2019. Well, that didn't happen in the time frame that they had imagined, but now it's finally coming into fruition.

Aubuchon Hardware soft-opened the renovated location earlier this month, but they will officially celebrate the Grand Opening of it's latest hardware store this weekend. The festivities will kick off with an official ribbon cutting ceremony Friday July 31, 2020 at 11AM. But it looks like the real fun happens on Saturday August 1, 2020, the first 200 customers will receive a $5 Aubuchon gift card, there will be free samples, product demos and door prizes. Aubuchon has also hired a Taco truck to be on-site, and they're offering special pricing on Propane tank refills and gallons of some paint.

This opening has gotten some high praise on the Aubuchon Monroe Facebook Page, with most area residents already pledging their consumer loyalty to this family-run hardware business. Some residents also mention that it's very nice to have a local place to shop again, because the trips to the Home Depot on the Monroe Turnpike in Trumbull, and to the Lowe's in Derby have worn them out.

Aubuchon Hardware is the oldest family-run hardware store in the United States, it was founded in 1908 in Massachusetts. Right now they run over 100 stores throughout the Northeast in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and New York.
