Danbury Mayor On Eversource Rate Hike: ‘They Put A Beating on People’
Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton joined the Ethan and Lou Show in his regular weekly spot on Thursday (7/30/20) and spoke about customer outrage over the new Eversource Energy delivery fee increase.
Lou cited an article about the issue from The Patch that said the legislative Energy and Technology Committee is urging the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority to suspend the Eversource Energy "delivery charge" increases. Ethan and Lou then asked Mayor Boughton his opinion on the matter and this is what he had to say.
Somehow, some way, Eversource was able to sneak in a huge rate increase, they don't call it and increase, they make up some wacky name for it but the bottom line is, it's more money. It's not just $20 or $40 which you can kind of get under peak circumstances, OK I get it my electricity costs a little more money, it's big money.
Here I am, high atop Kennedy Flats and the apartment unit next door to me is a one bedroom and the poor guy got a $200 increase to his bill and his electric bill shouldn't be more than eighty bucks.
He later continued saying:
They put a beating on people, and you know that adds up, right two hundred bucks a month is $2400 a year.
Here is the unedited Eversource discussion from the show.
It will be interesting to see what comes from the legislative Energy and Technology Committee's efforts to suspend the rate hike. People are struggling out there.
