Rat Exterminators of Litchfield County: Torrington Needs You
I have a hot tip for the pest control industry in Litchfield County: Make your way up to my hometown Torrington. Social media has been ablaze this weekend over a rat problem in town, and I can tell you it's true, I've seen it.
Over the past month, an old Torrington Company building at 70 North Street has been brought down to the ground. It's part of a $4 million dollar brownfield remediation project, and it's amazing how quickly the massive structures disappeared. Here's a photo of the buildings that were brought down.
As you can imagine, lots of wildlife were able to find a comfortable place to survive in this industrial wasteland, and vermin and pests thrived. After the buildings were demolished, rumor has it that rats made their way into the neighborhoods surrounding the Police Station, movie theater, and spread down the Naugatuck River to my part of town. I live on S. Main across from the beautiful Rainbow Bridge and the dog park. My backyard is the soon to be vacant Friendly Hands Food Bank, and my neighbor gave me the head's up that his house and our complex have also been invaded by rats, he alone trapped at least 20+ in the past week.
Torrington social media has blown up this rat issue over the past three days, with most placing the blame for the vermin infestation on the demolition. I'm sure it was a factor, but we just had the first frost of the season, wildlife is desperately trying to get into our warm space. It's a perfect storm of rats, cold weather, and progress, take advantage of this exterminators.
