According to the Arrest Warrant, two unidentified residents of New Fairfield went to the New Fairfield Resident Trooper's Office on 11-16-24 and alleged that a contractor had bilked them out of $265,000 that they had paid for renovations on a home. The complainants alleged after purchasing a home in New Fairfield and interviewing over 30 contractors, they hired William Rogers of Valley Home Renovations in Lagrangeville, NY for the job. The total sum of the home renovation project was estimated at $863,400, and the complainants allege that Rogers requested they pay $265,000 '30 days before works starts'.

According to the complainants, they paid Rogers $265,000 on April 30, 2024, and assumed in good faith that the work would get underway. As the summer of 2024 passed with no progress, the complainants grew suspicious. A contentious meeting took place between Rogers and the complainants on October 22, which led to the formal request of the return of the $265,000 on October 29. Numerous attempts by the complainants to subsequently contact Rogers then failed.

The investigation by the New Fairfield Resident Trooper's Office uncovered inconsistencies, and extradited Rogers from upstate New York on 12/17/24. Rogers has been charged with Larceny in the First Degree, held on a $100,000 bond, and was scheduled to appear at Danbury Superior Court.
