Could we see the end of this disease in our lifetime?

There is nothing more heartbreaking than watching a loved one succumb to the AIDS virus. While we have made major strides since the onslaught of HIV/AIDS in the mid 1970s, and into more public awareness since the 80s, we are far from out of the woods. With May 18, HIV Vaccine Awareness Day, there is still the need for diligence. The AIDS.gov website is a very informative.

In tandem with nationwide awareness, the Governor of New York State hopes to do more. In a story from WHEC.com, Governor Andrew Cuomo is introducing legislation aimed at ending the state's HIV/AIDS epidemic by the year 2020. He's announced proposals to increase access for HIV testing and break down treatment barriers to cut new infections by 75-percent over the next four years.

This newest legislation is part of Cuomo's signature health initiative. You can read all the legislation and bills about his quest to end the AIDS epidemic in New York State at governor.ny.gov
