Not Squeamish? Win the Worm Eating Contest at Lake Compounce
Will you eat anything? How bad would you like to win a season pass to Lake Compounce in Bristol, Connecticut? Would you eat worms? What if they throw in an Apple Watch SE and a t-shirt if you did it? You chance for all of that is happening on Friday, October 7, 2023.
Lake Compounce is in the midst of presenting their Phantom Fall Fest on weekends through the rest of October, and they've scheduled an event for all of you adventurous eaters out there for this weekend. Phantom's Worm Eating Contest is slated to happen this Friday at 7PM. According to LakeCompounce.com, the first person to eat 10 live worms on Friday will win a 2024 Gold Season Pass, an Apple Watch SE, and an I Conquered t-shirt. 2024 Gold Season Passes are selling for $99.99 in case you were wondering.
Initially, I thought that Compounce would be serving up earthworms, but the photo that is on the website appears to be of mealworms. If mealworms are the worms in the contest, it shouldn't be too much of an ordeal. Mealworms are reportedly packed with nutrition, and fit for human consumption. edibleinsects.com will sell you a 56 gram bag of salt and pepper mealworms for $17.25 if you want to get some training in before the big contest. What do mealworms taste like? Shrimp, fried oil, and corn are all used to describe it.
After doing a little research, I don't believe Compounce can serve earthworms, their taste is described as "Earth", and although generally safe to ingest, some earthworms may contain allergens or heavy metals.
Anyway, sign ups for Lake Compounce's Phantom Worm Eating Contest are on a first-come-first-served basis, and you must be 18+ to join in. Good luck.
