No Savannah Bananas, But The Thunder Chickens Are Coming to Hartford
I like the gimmick of our local baseball teams assuming an alternate identity to take the field for a worthy cause or fundraiser, and it's going to happen once again in 2025 for both the Hartford Yard Goats and the Hudson Valley Renegades.

Fans of minor league baseball have fallen in love with the exhibition baseball team the Savannah Bananas, their tickets sell out at many of their appearances, including their appearance at Dunkin' Park in Hartford in 2023. The Savannah Bananas 2025 schedule has been released, unfortunately the team will not be playing in Connecticut, the closest the Bananas will be is Fenway Park in Boston around the 4th of July.
The Hartford Yard Goats, Connecticut's Double A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, have announced that the team will be taking the field at Dunkin' Park at some point during the upcoming 2025 season dressed and known as the Hartford Thunder Chickens. At some point today, the Yard Goats will announce a second alternate identity that they will assume during the season too. Why Thunder Chickens? According to the press release, the name is a nickname that some have given to wild turkeys, or a ruffled grouse, and we have over 35,000 wild turkeys in Connecticut as well as quite a few ruffled grouse, so, what the hell, it's better than the Hartford Steamed Cheeseburgers .
Not to be outdone, the Hudson Valley Renegades, The Yankees Double A affiliate out of Fishkill, New York has just announced that they will be taking the field during the upcoming 2025 season as the Hudson Valley Retrievers.
