No New Restrictions in Connecticut as Delta Variant Spreads

As the latest strain of the Coronavirus spreads across the country, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont is not reacting or imposing any of the old restrictions just yet.

The latest variant of COVID-19, the Delta Variant, is now spreading across the country and some states are even bringing back some of the restrictions that were so prevalent during the height of the pandemic.

Here in Connecticut, Governor Lamont is not reacting. Some states like California have already reissued mask mandates for all, even those who are vaccinated.

According to newstimes.com, the Governor said on Tuesday that only those who are not vaccinated will still be required to wear a mask when indoors. The Governor said this mandate is for the short term and will continue as the Delta Variant spreads.

COVID-19 cases continue to remain low in the state even though the Connecticut State Department of Public Health is reporting that the Delta Variant does comprise 10 to 20 percent of the new cases in Connecticut.

Connecticut's vaccination rate is also slightly above the National average as some 67 percent of the states population has already taken at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The problem lies in the fact that in some of Connecticut's biggest cities the vaccination rate is lower then health officials would like to see. For example, in Hartford, only 37 percent of people are fully vaccinated, and in New Haven, the rate is a bit higher at 47 percent, but it's still well below the states average.

National health experts like Dr. Anthony Fauci sent out a warning late last week that the Delta Variant is on track to become the new dominant strain in the United States, and could be twice as transmissible as the original COVID-19 strain.

Not only is the Delta Variant a cause for concern for scientist's, the newest Lambda Variant really has them puzzled. The strain, first detected in Peru, has spread to some 27 countries, and it's unusual mutation has them really scratching their heads.
