WalletHub recently conducted a study to find America’s most fun cities, and the results are in! The study compared more than 180 U.S. cities across 65 different metrics to determine which locations offer the best mix of entertainment options. These metrics included things like festivals per capita, restaurants and fitness centers per capita, acres of parkland, and even the average cost of a movie ticket or beer.

Everyone has their own idea of what fun looks like. Whether you're into hitting up the latest bars and dance clubs, checking out local festivals, or spending the day at the park, each city has its own vibe. But with entertainment costs rising, it’s good to know where you can find the most affordable fun. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average American spends over $3,600 a year on entertainment. WalletHub’s study aimed to help Americans find cities that balance fun with affordability.

So, which cities topped the list as America’s most fun?

  1. Las Vegas, NV
  2. Orlando, FL
  3. Miami, FL
  4. Atlanta, GA
  5. New Orleans, LA

These cities are packed with entertainment options, from world-class festivals and restaurants to an abundance of bars and fitness centers.

On the flip side, Connecticut didn’t fare well in the rankings. New Haven and Bridgeport landed near the bottom, coming in at 154th and 175th, respectively. So, if you're in Connecticut and looking for a fun city, you might want to plan a trip elsewhere!

Overall, WalletHub’s study shows that fun doesn’t have to be out of reach – you just need to know where to go! Basically, anywhere but here.

This is an embarrassment, for Connecticut to come off well in these studies we might need WH to start considering smaller cities because our big ones have a ton of problems. What I thought was interesting was one of the weaker points that pushed Bridgeport so far down the list was Fitness Centers Per Capita. B-Port was third worst in the nation.

A Curious Excursion in an Underground Brookfield Tunnel

Recently, I was having a discussion with a friend of mine, I told this person I'd accessed some caves and tunnels in my hometown of Brewster, NY which is just over the NY/CT State Line. He knows how much I love local history, and saw how excited I was about this journey. He told me there was an area of Brookfield, CT that I needed to see, one that most residents have never seen. He told me about a tunnel, one that was not far away from where we were sitting. I made note of the conversation and bookmarked the destination for a future trip.

Vacant Brookfield Properties Give Me the Creeps

Brookfield Connecticut is a beautiful New England town with picturesque landscapes and architecture. It does have one section of road that is about a mile long, that time has forgotten. When the highway got extended, the life started to drain from this portion of Federal Road and COVID-19 put the finishing touches on any business that was hanging on for dear life. There are supposed to be people in these places, that's why they were made. The absence of humanity in these spaces makes them tragic and chilling.

Inside Bridgeport's Fading Relic: Remington Arms

For over 50 years Remington Arms was one of the most vital companies located in Bridgeport, CT and their facility was monstrous. Today, there is a shell of the Remington Arms factory leftover in Bridgeport. The property is located on Barnum Avenue and it’s become a must-see spot for ghost hunters and fans of abandoned properties.
