How Newtown Bounced Back After This Week's Major Storm

According to a release from the Newtown Police Department, the town has made major progress recovering from the powerful storm that knocked out electricity and blocked roadways earlier this week.

The good news is that Newtown is just about back to normal. Officials say the number of homes without power has dropped dramatically, falling from more than 1,200 outages to roughly 84. Eversource crews are still working in the remaining neighborhoods, with restoration efforts expected to continue through the evening and into the next day until everyone is back online.

There's more good news if you've been trying to get around town. Every road that was closed because of downed trees, wires, or storm debris has now reopened to traffic. Public Works crews are still out cleaning up what's left behind, removing debris, and performing final safety inspections to make sure everything is safe for residents.

The update comes from Newtown's Emergency Management Team, a group that includes the First Selectman, Police Department, Fire Department, EMS, Dispatch, and Public Works. They've been working alongside Eversource crews around the clock since the storm rolled through.

Town officials also thanked residents for their patience while repairs were underway and gave a shoutout to the emergency responders, utility workers, and Public Works employees who have been putting in long hours to get the community back on its feet.

If you're one of the handful of residents still without electricity, Newtown officials recommend checking the Eversource outage map or reporting your outage directly to the utility company for the latest restoration information.

Overall, it's a big step forward, and after a busy few days of cleanup, Newtown appears to be in the home stretch of its storm recovery.
