Connecticut has lost over a dozen movie theaters since the Covid-19 pandemic, and Hollywood is breaking up as we speak. Have you heard of a boutique movie theater? One has just opened up in one of the most luxurious locations in Fairfield County.

Townsend Bar & Cinema has officially opened it's doors for business inside the Hyatt Regency at 1800 E Putnam Ave in Old Greenwich. The boutique movie theater has just 40 seats, and yes, they are all plush recliners with side tables,a nice upgrade from plastic cupholders. The first movie shown was the new Superman, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps is also currently playing.

A Movie Theater? In a Hotel? Yep, get used to it.

Don't try to see a matinee, the theater is only open in the afternoon/evening, it's open on Sunday and Monday from 5PM until Midnight, and Tuesday through Saturday from 4PM until Midnight. Popcorn and peanuts? I'm sure they will be available but you will have the ability to bring in food and drinks from the Townsend bar & restaurant if you choose. I was looking into the Townsend Bar menu, and I'd much rather eat a shrimp cocktail, wings, or 120z Herb-marinated Hangar steak than a handful of warm Goobers.

The tickets are a bit more expensive than the $10-15 charge we're used to, Adult admission ranges from $20-24, while children and seniors get a couple bucks off. Parking? It's free, but you will have to have your ticket validated. The theater will also be available for rentals for your next event.

The Best 'Made in Litchfield County' Products I've Tried Recently

I love supporting local businesses, it's vital in 2025 to try to devote as much of our income to our friends and neighbors, if not, the wave of closures will continue. I bought four products made in Litchfield County in the past few months that really impressed me. On a National stage, I believe they are as good, if not superior, to the name brands.
