Lots of Charges for 132 MPH Speeder in Colchester
I see them on I-84 all the time. People going 90 to 100 MPH weaving in and out of traffic. Honestly, I don't know how some of you sleep at night the way you drive out there each and every morning, but I digress.
According to a press release by the CSP, yesterday morning (11/28) at about 10:28 AM, Connecticut State Police got a speed reading on this guy going 132 MPH in a posted 65 MPH zone on Route 2. When they turned on their lights to pull the vehicle over, the 2014 Range Rover took exit 17 and just about hit a CT DOT worker who was at work at the intersection of Exit 17 and Mill Hill Road.
The troopers did, at one point lose visual contact with the speeding SUV after seeing it commit several more traffic infractions along the way. Even though, the suspect "got away", they did a full check of the area, and low and behold they found the Range Rover in question parked in a garage of a local business on Old Colchester Road. The vehicle operator, 23-year-old Faizal Fasasi was taken into custody after he was located and admitted parking the car to evade state police, which, of course, is a no-no and added to the long list of other no-no's Fasasi is already accused of. Here is the laundry list of charges he is being brought up on:
C.G.S. 14-212d(b) Endangerment of a Highway Worker
C.G.S. 14-213bZ No Insurance in a Construction Zone
C.G.S. 14-222Z Reckless Operation in a Construction Zone
C.G.S. 14-223(a)Z Disobeying Signal of a Police Officer in Construction Zone
C.G.S. 14-232(a)(1) Improper Passing
C.G.S. 14-234 Passing in a No Passing Zone
C.G.S. 14-301 Failure to Obey Stop Sign
C.G.S. 53a-107 Criminal Trespass in the 1st Degree
C.G.S. 53a-167a Interfering with an Officer
C.G.S. 53a-64 Reckless Endangerment in the 2nd Degree
He is being held on a $25,000 bond and transferred to Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center, pending arraignment at Norwich Superior Court sometime today (11/29). The Facebook post at the time I am writing this article already had over 250 comments and 1100 reactions.
I don't know why he was driving so fast, maybe someday we will know the reason, but whatever it is, is not a good enough one. Slow down out there, I see impatient drivers each and every day on the Taconic, 84, 684, and it makes me wonder if they truly understand how dangerous their driving really is, or do they just not care?
