Get ready for an EVEN BIGGER mess on Interstate 84 in Waterbury.

Rep-am.com reports that there will be closures overnight in each direction two times next week as construction plans continue to widen the highway.

The Scott Road Bridge overpass has been partially reconstructed and traffic currently travels over the new part of the structure. The plans are to demolish and rebuild the old part of the bridge.

Step one is the removal of steel from the bridge. Starting at 11:00pm on Monday, 3/5 and Tuesday 3/6, the westbound lanes will be closed at exit 25 and will reopen at 5:00am. Detours will take you off the highway at the off-ram to Plank Road and back onto the highway at the westbound on-ramp.

Once the steel is removed, the plans are that on Wednesday, 3/7 and Thursday 3/8the eastbound lanes will close  at 11:00pm and reopen at 5:00am. Traffic will be detoured off of the interstate via the new exit 25 off-ram onto Reidville Drive and back onto I-84 at the Scott Road on-ramp.

If that's not confusing enough, follow me on this: when 5:00am rolls around, you can access exit 25 east through the detour at exit 23.

All bets are off if the weather is bad. Oh, and if only takes one night to remove the steel from the bridge instead of two, everything gets pushed up a day.
