I've seen some pretty strange animals and humans on my very early commute into work, but I wasn't prepared to almost run into two horses along Rt. 202 in Bantam this morning, I hope they made it back to their barn safely.

My daily commute is 33 miles of Rt,202 between Torrington and Brookfield five days a week. I leave my house just before 4AM, and I'm the only one on the road at that time. I see foxes, a racoon, or an occasional delivery truck, today it was different. As I passed Jackie's Restaurant in the center of Bantam, I saw something along the left side of the roadway. At first I thought I was looking at two Moose, they were huge animals lumbering along towering over my Subaru, but as I got closer, I could see it was two horses.

They were trotting along slowly, but I was rolling even slower. I didn't want to be stupid and take a pic of them for this, but I did pick up my cellphone immediately and dialed 911. I could tell as I got closer, these were escapees. Both horses were wearing barn coats, and both were impeccably groomed, beautiful manes and tails.

The 911 operator quickly patched my call over to Troop L in Litchfield. I was concerned for the safety of the horses, and I would hate to think of anyone coming around that corner at 45MPH. These were huge horses; no vehicle could take an impact of this size. Anyway, I hope that the trooper I called found them, and I hope that they were returned safely home. Another reminder to slow down, you never know what's just around that corner.
