A member of Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue for more than 70 years, an obituary on Legacy.com states that former Fire Chief Michael Lucas, Jr. passed away at Danbury Hospital last Friday, September 28. He was surrounded by his loved ones. Mr. Lucas was 92-years-old.

A World War II Army veteran, prior to retirement, Mr. Lucas was a driver for both Fairfield Hills Hospital and the State of Connecticut. An active member of the town of Newtown, he was a member and quite involved at the Knights of Columbus and Rose of Lima Church.

Family will receive visitors at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown on Tuesday, October 2 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, October 3 at 10:30am and he will be buried at St. Rose Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in memory of his wife Josephine Lucas.
