First Day of Summer Brings Chance of Severe Weather in Connecticut
It's hot, it's humid, it's officially summer and that also means the chance of severe weather. We've got that in the forecast for today and tomorrow.
Not only has the first day of summer brought the chance of some strong storms, but there's also a heat advisory issued for our area with temperatures climbing to the upper 80's and low 90's by later this afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service, since the temperatures will be so oppressive, it just adds to the risk of those thunderstorms popping up all around the area later this afternoon. Thunderstorm development is very common on summer afternoons because of this intense daytime heating as well as the high humidity, thus providing the moisture, the instability, and the warm temperatures needed to cause the air to begin rising.
- Today: Partly Sunny with a high near 87. Chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 PM. Some of the storms could produce some heavy rain and gusty winds.
- Tomorrow: Cloudy with Showers and thunderstorms likely with highs in the upper 70's.
- Tuesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms ending, clearing skies and temeratures dropping to around 50.
- Wednesday: Sunny and dry with highs near 75.
