I bought a pair of Nike Air Jordan 2 sneakers in 1986, I think I paid just over $100 for them and they were worth every penny. If I want a pair of those now, where could I buy them? Have you heard of a store named Snipes? One is just about to open in Waterbury.

Sneaker and streetwear stores are hot, and a German-based retailer is making a big push into in Connecticut. Snipes is one of Europe's largest streetwear and sneaker retailers, and a few of their stores are starting to open up around Connecticut. Get ready Waterbury, a new Snipes store is going in right next to Walmart on Wolcott St/Stillson Rd. Perfect timing too, because I saw that the Bob's Store in the same plaza has got big "Store closing" signs up. Don't worry though bargain sneaker and apparel hunter, they're moving to another location in the same plaza, it's not a permanent shutdown.

Snipes is up and running already on Dixwell Ave in Hamden, Boston Ave in Bridgeport, two locations in Hartford and New Haven, and the store in Waterbury looks like it's very close to opening. What are some of the featured brands in Snipes? Nike, Adidas, New Balance, New Era, Timberland, UGG, Birkenstock, Dr. Martens, Polo, Vans, Puma, and The North Face. Instead of a ride to the outlets in Clinton, Foxwoods, or Woodbury Commons, having all of those brands in a store in Waterbury sounds pretty good, right? Even better, you won't have to brave the Brass Mill Center Mall to get your kicks.
