Danbury Was a Scene of Chaos and Celebration After Brazil Soccer Win
At my house, the hours between 3 pm and 7 pm are really hectic.
I'm finishing my workday on my laptop, getting the kids off the bus, dealing with their homework and prepping dinner. There is a lot that we squeeze into those four hours. So, when a rare moment arises to take a seat and do nothing, I try and capture it. That is what I was doing yesterday, when I heard what I can only be described as chaos. There were car horns and sirens that wouldn't let up, it was like nothing I've ever heard.
Since I've never heard so many automobiles beeping their horns, I assumed something had gone horribly wrong in our neighborhood. I told my son Lucas I was going to check it out, and I set out on foot. But before I could reach the street corner, he yelled out our front window, Brazil won!
He was referring to the Brazilian national soccer team, and he was right, Brazil topped South Korea with a final of 4-1 on Monday (12/5/22). I don't know if Lucas thought I would turn around and come back when he told me Brazil won, but there was no chance of that, I had to see this.
When I got down to Main Street what I saw was amazing, people hanging out of cars waving their Brazilian flags, music cranking, horns blowing and an absolute electricity in the air, and it did not stop. I knew I had to capture some of it on camera, I'd heard about these celebrations but never seen one before. Let's just say people were hyped out of their minds.
Look.
Would you just look!
I will say this, I was having a good time because I was on-foot and I could just turn around and go home, at any moment. BUT, if I was in my car, on the street, I'd not be so pleased.
Any unwitting motorist who is not a Brazilian soccer fan, was stuck in a flash-mob style celebration, they could not escape.
Congratulations to Brazil on the victory, the fans and the folks who had to deal with that traffic jam, I have a newfound respect for all of you.
Wild times.
