Police say that on January 7, 2026, Danbury officers—working with multiple state agencies—conducted compliance checks at Cali Exotic Convenience on White Street and Star Rose Smoke Shop on Mill Ridge Road. The inspections were reportedly prompted by complaints from parents concerned that minors were able to buy vapes and THC products. Authorities say the focus was on underage sales, illegal THC products, and CBD items that exceeded allowable THC limits.

According to police, both shops failed. Cali Exotic Convenience allegedly sold a marijuana product to an undercover officer and was found to have the equivalent of 29 pounds of illicit THC products, including flower, oils, concentrates, and edibles. Officials say the shop was shut down, issued a Stop-Work Order for labor law violations, and cited for having an expired tobacco sales permit.

Star Rose Smoke Shop was also found to have nearly five pounds of illicit THC products, police say. Investigators reportedly located some of those items hidden behind a shelving unit in the store’s bathroom.

Police say the clerk at Cali Exotic Convenience, identified as Mariana Valentino Do Amaral, was arrested and charged with illegal sale of cannabis. She was also reportedly charged with Failure to Appear after officers discovered an outstanding warrant. The investigation remains open and is being handled by the Danbury Police Department’s Detective Bureau.
