Danbury Schools Decide Not to Reopen Full Time in April

It's no surprise that Danbury has seen an uptick in COVID cases since many COVID restrictions were lifted, which is why Danbury's Superintendent of Schools, Sal Pascarella, has deemed it unsafe to send kids back to full time in-school learning in April. The district's medical adviser, Dr. Jack Fong, told CT Insider;

127 positive cases were reported between March 15 to March 21, a 140 percent increase from the week of March 8. On Wednesday night, March 24, more than 215 staff members called in sick for Thursday.

Another underlying reason that Danbury schools are not returning to full time in-school learning is that Connecticut is experiencing an increase in COVID-19 cases along with the rise in the positivity rate, according to a Hartford Courant report.  The Northeast is near the top of the list when it comes to new COVID cases.

The experts say it's a strong possibility that the B117 variant, one of the more infectious strains of the virus, has been the cause of added infections. Connecticut currently has more confirmed cases per capita than any other state.

Experts also say that vaccinations are why we haven't seen a spike in cases and that brings me to some good news. All Connecticut adults will become eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine on Thursday, April 1.
