
Connecticut’s Most Dangerous Roads to Avoid This Winter
Have you ever been stuck in a whiteout while driving your car in the dead of winter? It happened to me in the mid-70s when I still lived in upstate New York. A nasty snow squall surrounded my car as I attempted to drive home to my apartment on Belmont Ave. in Rochester. Thank God I was on a side street, not a major highway when the whiteout hit. I was enveloped in a huge white cloud of swirling snow! I couldn't see a damn thing, just waiting to get slammed by another vehicle. It was one of the scariest moments of my life! Did I mention we had to walk a mile to school, dodging snow drifts along the way? There was no cancellation of schools back in the Boomer days! According to the Hartford Courant, a survey of 3,000 drivers was conducted to identify the most feared winter roads, including five from Connecticut.
