A local woman found out that the Greenwich Police are not about to take cruelty to animals lightly, especially when you lock your dog in the trunk of your car on a summer day.

The Greenwich Daily Voice reports that 56-year-old Linda Scalley of Wilton, CT allegedly left her dog in the trunk of her car this morning on Grove Street in Cos Cob. The Greenwich Police Department say they received calls about the dog locked in a hot car and dispatched officers to the scene.

When officers arrived, they found the car with the windows rolled up, but reportedly didn't see a dog. The dog is believed to have been in the trunk of the car for more than a half an hour, and was heavily salivating in distress when it was finally let out of the car.

Scalley was charged with a misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals. She was released without bail and has a courtdate on August 1.
