If you're self-conscious about your teeth in Connecticut, there's a good reason - We're surrounded by some of the healthiest smiles in all of the USA.
Wallethub.com has just released their 2024 list of the states with the Best and Worst dental health, and Connecticut has landed in the Top 10 of the Best. Wallethub.com crunched the numbers after comparing 25 key indicators of dental wellness, and Connecticut came in as the sixth-best state out of all 50. Among the 25 key indicators of dental health wellness were density of dental professionals, the presence of fluoridated water, and percentage of our population that goes for regular check-ups. Connecticut landed at #5 overall with percentage of adults who visited a dentist in the past year, and #2 in overall oral health.
Who beat us? Illinois was named the best state overall, with Wisconsin, Idaho, Minnesota, and Michigan rounding out the Top 5 Best. The only other New England representative in the Top 10 Best was Massachusetts coming in at #9. What are the worst states for dental health? Wallethub.com has named the 5 worst as Montana, Louisiana, West Virginia, Mississippi, and the King of Bad Choppers? Arkansas.
Where did Connecticut fail? We tied with all of the other states in New England for worst in the US for dental treatment costs, we live in the most expensive area of the US for dental care. Maybe that's why Connecticut was ranked as the #1 state overall for lowest percentage of adults that experienced oral pain in the past year, and came in 5th for adults who have retained their natural teeth. Keep brushing and flossing, your neighbor just got some new veneers.
