I can talk ice cream all day. We're lucky here in Connecticut because we have so many different options to choose from. Not only that, but we get nationally recognized for our ice cream quite a bit. These dairy farms around here just know what they're doing.

We get national recognition for a lot of different foods and restaurants in our state, but I'm really happy that ice cream is one of them. I will say though, one place that I think deserves more recognition for their ice cream is Stew Leonard's. Their soft serve is top tier and I don't understand why they don't get more attention on some of these "best" lists.

Delish recently came out with a list of the best ice cream parlor in each state and a frequent flyer made the list for Connecticut. I feel like the two common choices in Connecticut would be Ferris Acres or Rich Farms. The winner of this one? Rich Farm Ice Cream Shop. This is what the publication had to say about Rich's:

You know you’re getting the real deal when you’re greeted by grazing cows and the smell of waffle cones cooking. Rich Farm Ice Cream Shop serves an array of flavors, which change daily, but customers particularly love the black raspberry, chocolate chip, and peanut butter-based options. There are two other locations in Connecticut, plus one in California.

I actually had no idea that there was a location in California, but they are completely correct about the smell of the waffle cones. Those are my favorite. Rich's has so many fan-favorites and it is busy every single time you go. If you've still never been, I personally think it's worth the hype. They have locations in Oxford, Bristol and Middlefield.

The Culinary Highlights Along Route 44 Through Litchfield County

I love exploring Litchfield County since I made the move to Torrington, there are so many underrated restaurants, cafes, and bakeries that don't get the attention of someplace in Hartford, New Haven, or Danbury. Route 44 is a major roadway that cuts across Northern Litchfield County east to west from Lakeville to New Hartford, if you're hungry, here are some great places to stop.
