Connecticut DCP Issues Warning Regarding Illegal Slot Machines
As tempting as it may be to throw a $20 into that tabletop slot machine in the back of the bodega near your place, don't do it, according to the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection - Gaming Division, they've been designed to steal your money.
In Connecticut, there are only two locations where electronic gaming machines are legal to operate. You may have guessed that those two places are Foxwoods and mohegan Sun, and you're correct. Any other machine in the state of Connecticut is operating illegally, and based on the warning issued by the CT DCP, the odds at these machines are nowhere near your favor.
According to the CT DCP-Gaming Divisions Consumer Warning, officials have confiscated 6 illegal slot machines and over $900 in cash from four locations around the state during the month of December 2024. One machine that was confiscated showed that over $191,000 had been poured into it, while the machine itself had been set to only pay out at a 66% return. Regulated slot machines at Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods are required by law to pay out at least 80% or more wagered by customers over time spent playing. If that doesn't make you feel better, according to the CT DCP, both Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun have returned over 94.6% of the amount wagered on slot machines in 2024.
I've been to both Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun multiple times over the past few months, and I can honestly say that I've walked out with winnings more often than losing. The CT DCP will continue it's enforcement in the months to come.
