I feel for all of those in the home buying process at the moment. It is hard in general, but right now it just seems to be complete madness. Homes are going for double what they're worth and you have to offer way over asking price to even get considered. I have a lot of friends going through it right now and I give them a lot of props.

We've seen everywhere what the housing market is like. Many people are broadening their location to at least try and fit within budget a little bit. I found a press release from Zillow that I thought was interesting. A Connecticut city was considered one of the hottest housing markets in the U.S. for 2025.

Hartford landed in the top 5 for hottest housing markets in the country sitting at number 4. The factors that go into determining a hot market include relative affordability and the amount of homes for sale. It also takes into consideration the local home value growth and how quickly homes are selling. Job growth per new home permitted and expected growth in owner-occupied households are also considered.

Hartford's home value index is for 2024 was $363,298, their year-over-year growth was 6.5%, home value growth 4.2%, and change in inventory compared to 2018/2019 was -68.6%. As you can tell, many people are flocking to this city to buy a home. Something that I also found very interesting was their change from 2024 to 2025. They jumped 15 spots on the chart bringing them to number 4. That is a pretty dramatic difference in about a year.

I understand why people want to buy a home here, but I also don't. Connecticut really is a great place to live, it's just so damn expensive. At this point, everywhere is expensive, but I feel Connecticut is extra expensive for no reason. The other people to make the list were:

1. Buffalo, NY

2. Indianapolis, IN

3. Providence, RI

4. Hartford, CT

5. Philadelphia, PA

These are some of answers we got texted to us on the I-95 Rock Mobile app chat feature.
