Danbury Hosting Community Watch Party for World Cup Semifinal

According to a release from the City of Danbury, soccer fans have a great excuse to skip the office for an extended lunch on Wednesday. Mayor Roberto Alves is inviting the community to a World Cup Semifinal Watch Party at O'Briens Sports Pub and Restaurant on Lake Avenue beginning at 3 p.m.

Whether you're pulling for England, Argentina, or just want to soak in the excitement of one of the biggest matches in the tournament, the city is encouraging fans to come out wearing their favorite team's jersey and support one of Danbury's longtime local businesses. It's a chance to enjoy the atmosphere of a World Cup semifinal with fellow fans instead of watching from your couch.

According to ESPN, England is feeling increasingly confident that star midfielder Declan Rice will be available for Wednesday's showdown after battling an illness leading up to the team's quarterfinal victory over Norway. Rice was limited to just 45 minutes in that match after spending several days sick in bed, and he's also been dealing with hamstring and back issues during the tournament. Even so, reports indicate he's feeling much better, and there's growing optimism he'll be ready to go when England takes the field in Atlanta.

England is also monitoring the health of Nico O'Reilly and Ezri Konsa after both picked up knocks in the quarterfinals, while Marc Guéhi continues to play through a lingering hamstring issue.
