My wife and I went into a gorgeous new tearoom/bakery in Morris over the weekend and we noticed a small detail/kind gesture/idea in the store that I hope catches with other local business owners who happen to have chilly, drafty spaces.

There's been a lot of change in Morris over the past few months, and we finally got around to visiting the Penny Farthing Tea Room & Bakery. The shop has been open for three months, and it's located at 11 Watertown Road near the intersection of Rt. 63 and 109. We stopped in on a frigid Saturday morning, and as we were walking around this gorgeous tearoom, I noticed that the owners had placed a basket of blankets and throws near the seats for customers to keep toasty as you enjoying your scones. What a thoughtful gesture, and although it was a warm 72 inside Penny Farthing, my feet were a bit numbed by the ice outside.

There's a wonderful selection of scones, muffins, shortbread squares (Incredible), tarts, and pies, quiche, and there is a full English breakfast on the menu, and we found the owners/employees to be absolutely charming and welcoming.

The four corners area of East Morris now features Penny Farthing Tearoom and Bakery, Bella Luna Gifts, the recently opened La Guera Mexican Grill & Cantina, and the food trucks at Pasture at South Farms. All are worth a visit, and I hope they all copy Penny Farthing's cozy blanket idea.
