Cinco De Mayo Travesty — Tortilla Chip Recall In CT
Cinco de Mayo celebrants beware! A popular brand of tortilla chip has issued a voluntary recall of some of their chips due to an "undeclared milk allergen." If you have milk allergies, you definitely want to be on the lookout while enjoying chips and salsa this weekend.
The Hanover, PA based Utz Quality Foods has recalled a number of their tortilla chip styles with expiration dates between May 26 and June 16. The company said in a statement:
Utz® Quality Foods, LLC, is voluntarily recalling select expiration dates of some Golden Flake, Good Health, Utz and Weis Brand Tortilla Chip items due to potential contamination of undeclared milk allergen. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The brands being recalled are the 11.5 and 17 oz bags of Utz Restaurant Style tortilla chips, Round White tortilla chips, the 52 oz tortilla chip 4-pack, 9 oz Organic Blue, Yellow and White tortilla chips, 11 Oz Weis restaurant style, No Salt Round and White Round tortilla chips, Golden Flake TortiYAHS, and Good Health Black Bean tortilla chips.
No other Golden Flake, Good Health, Utz or Weis Tortilla Chip products are being recalled. The recall covers a number of states in CT and NY.
Customers are asked to return the product to point of purchase for a refund, or simply discard it. And also to just scoop the guacamole and salsa up with your bare hands. Just kidding on the last part.
