Update: Hasbro Says Mr. Potato Head is Not Going Gender Neutral
The news that Hasbro was dropping the 'Mr.' from Mr. Potato Head to make the spud gender-neutral is not true, sort of. We wrote an article a few days ago that Hasbro was changing the famous "Mr. Potato Head" to just Potato Head. After further explanation, we found out this in fact, was not true, kind of.
Take a deep breath, there's no need to panic because the CEO of Hasbro, Brian Goldner, was interviewed on CNN and explained to viewers,
Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head are not going anywhere. They're still a prominent part of the brand. Parents and kids want to expand on the brand. As part of the potato head family you can now have extended potato head family members like brothers and sisters and aunts and uncles.
To recap, you will still be able to purchase both Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head but will also be able to add Potato Head family members. The brand name has been changed so that both male and female characters will continue to be sold under the "Potato Head" brand name. Are you still confused? Let's take a look at the CNN YouTube video where Hasbro's CEO does a deep dive into the potato head family scenario.
According to Hasbro Corporate, the change in brand to, "Potato Head" is the best way to reflect the full line. Launching this fall will be, "Create Your Potato Head Family" featuring two large potato bodies, one small potato body and 42 accessories. The new release of the family encourages your child's creativity to mix and match pieces.
