Beware of Hooded Suspects Stalking New Milford Homes and Cars
On Monday (10/02/23), the New Milford Police Department issued a warning to the public about suspicious individuals.
The message appeared on the Department's Facebook page and read:
"On 09/30/2023 at about 4:30 pm individuals were observed entering vehicles and garages in the Hawthorne Lane area. The suspects arrived and left the area in a blue Subaru or Hyundai. Three occupants, young males wearing face masks and hoodies, exited the vehicle and ran up to vehicles observed in driveways and appeared to enter vehicles in garages. The suspects left the area after being scared away by a homeowner. A short time later the suspects were possibly observed in the Prospect Street area of New Milford attempting the same type of activity. It is not known if anything was stolen during these events. The New Milford Police Department reminds everyone to please lock vehicles and keep homes secured to prevent these types of events and to call the New Milford Police Department if any suspicious activity is observed. If you have any information regarding the Hawthorne Lane or Prospect Street incidents, or you recognize any of the involved parties, please contact Officer Petersen 860-355-3133 or the New Milford Tips Line 860-355-2000."
We reached out to New Milford Police Chief Spencer Cerruto for a statement and he said:
"These hoodlums have no respect for the property of others. Our community is close knit, they believe in our laws and they work hard for what they have. I want nothing more than to catch these dangerous criminals and hope they would spend years in prison where maybe they can learn respect an a trade so they can contribute to society and not take from society."
We only talked about this briefly on the Tuesday (10/03/23) edition I-95 Morning Show.
Right after we did bring it up, listerers were chiming in with their thoughts.
LizC612 - Carmel - "Talking about break ins: I live in Carmel and my neighbors refuse to lock their car doors. They insist on requesting additional police patrols. Really? Just clean out your car and lock it."
Kevin - Dover Plains - "Some one found a guy sleeping in there car at the metro north parking lot in Southeast."
Matt Cable - "They hit Bethel too, my buddy saw it on his Ring camera. They hit the entire neighborhood."
Beware and tell your neighbors to lock up their cars and homes.
