Foodie City Rankings Surprise With New England’s Underwhelming Results
A new study has just been released that has ranked the 'Best Foodie Cities in America for 2025, and despite the fact that New England is one of the USA's richest areas of unique choices, only a few have made the cut.

According to Best Foodie Cities in America (2025) by WalletHub.com, although many cities across the US offer reasonably priced meals at an affordable price, some skimp on quality. Foodie-friendly cities offer options that appeal to both home cooks and adventurous eaters with a wide selection of local flavors and options.
Which US Cities Make up the Top 5 Foodie Cities for 2025?
In order to determine which cities were the best foodie destinations WalletHub compared 182 of the most populated across two key dimensions - Affordability and Diversity, Accessibility & Quality. Thar data was further evaluated using 28 relevant metrics, some of which were: Cost of groceries, accessibility & affordability og high-quality restaurants, sales tax, average price of beer & wine, restaurants per capita, presence of Michelin-starred restaurants, food trucks per capita, gourmet & specialty food stores per capita, and food festivals per capita.
At first glance, New Haven should score plenty of points using WalletHub's methodology but was ranked outside of the Top 100. The Top 5 foodie cities in the US according to WalletHub are: Miami, Portland, Oregon, San Francisco, Seattle, and Orlando. The bottom 3 were smaller cities in California, Maine, and Hawaii. Connecticut had two cities make the list - New Haven at #120, and Bridgeport at #138. I can honestly say the only time I've ever said "Oooh, let's get dinner in Bridgeport" was for Joseph steakhouse.
The highest-ranking city in all of New England? Portland, Maine at #35.
