Another Connecticut Teen’s Art Could Win Google Competition
Such talent in our state. Hot on the heels of last year's win, another Connecticut teen is in the running to score big from her art work.
Last year, 15-year-old Sarah Harrison from Stratford, got the news that she was the national winner of the 2017 Doodle 4 Google competition. She won with her artwork created on the theme, “What I see for the future…” Fast forward into said future when another Connecticut teen could win the 2018 competition.
In a story from The Register Citizen, this time 'round, it's 13-year-old Savannah Helm from Torrington. Helm is the Connecticut finalist in the Doodle 4 Google competition. The annual contest engages students in grades K-12 students from all across the country to create artwork that will be featured on Google's homepage. One student from each state is chosen to go on and compete for the grand prize — a feature on the Google homepage, a $30,000 college scholarship, a $50,000 technology grant for their school or a nonprofit of choice, and a trip to Google's headquarters.
According to registercitizen.com, Helm said she entered on a whim:
I was just looking online one day for school and I saw underneath Google 'Calling all artists.' And I like art, so I clicked and thought I may as well give it shot.
The theme of this year's contest is, "What inspires me." For Helm, the answer was music.
You can read all about the contest and vote for Savannah at doodlesgoogle.com. After the initial part of the process, a panel of Google executives will choose one of the five National Finalists and then the National Winner will be announced the first week of June.
Best of luck to Connecticut's own Savannah Helm for the big win!
