A Letter of Appreciation For the Snowplow Drivers of Connecticut
I want to take a moment to show my appreciation to the workers that keep us going to work, school, and the world turning when it snows, the unsung heroes that drive our snowplows.

Is there anything that Mother Nature can send our way that the Connecticut Department of Transportation and our Municipal snow removal teams can't handle? I don't think so. Back in the 1970's and 80's, an 8 inch+ snow would have shut down most of us for at least 8 hours. In 2025? We could get an 18-inch bombing of snow from the bombogenesis of a fierce 'nor-easter, and 2 hours after the last flake falls, the roads are wet and bare.
Have you noticed that people complain about things that are for their own good? I was behind a DOT truck on the way in yesterday morning as it was removing the three inches of snow that fell in Torrington. I was following the plow, we were moving along at maybe 20-25mph in a 40MPH stretch of Rt. 202. An impatient man in a bigger vehicle than my Subaru Forester made the stupid decision to pass the plow and I as we came upon a decent straightaway.
As slow as anyone removing ice and snow on our roads is moving, I'm staying right behind them. I've been around enough to absorb the message that the Connecticut DOT has put out for years cautioning all of us to "Leave ROOM, and Let Them Live'. I'm amazed at the fundamental lack of respect that some drivers have for people that are just trying to do their job.
If you are one of the strong that gets out there while the rest of us shelter inside to clear our roads and sidewalks, thank you. I can't do the labor anymore, and I want to be the one to show my appreciation for your work today.
