It's been many years since I lived in Putnam Lake, NY and I believe that time has made me appreciate the place more. It's never going to make a national list for the best lake communities in America but it doesn't need to.

Putnam Lake and its residents know exactly what it is, and what it's not. It's not a punch line, like some people in surrounding communities would have you believe. It is and was a great place to grow up as a kid. I lived in a place where a bicycle and a stick was all a kid needed to have fun. I woke up in the morning in a place filled with possibilities.

The hills and winding roads were loaded with kids just like me, and we had free reign of the town (hamlet). You could go as far as your parents would let you, and most of our parents let us use the entire community. That meant there were endless activities, woods and friends available to us.

Putnam Lake is a Hamlet of the Town of Patterson, NY. "The Lake" was, and continues to be a great place to raise a family but it most certainly is not boring. People from surrounding communities have a lot to say about "Lakers", they just don't do it to your face.

Putnam Lake has a personality all it's own. "The Lake" is loaded with great people with wonderful personalities that all seem to have a few things in common. This is why it will be easy for those of you who lived there, to identify with the "You Know You're From Putnam Lake If.....Examples.

There were some really vague reference I wanted to use here but I'll do it in the next one, I want to see if enough people care about this story before I throw in Jedi level Laker references.

Vacant Putnam Lake Properties

Putnam Lake is a Hamlet of the Town of Patterson In Putnam County, NY. Originally, the community was a vacation getaway for city folks who wanted Lake property in the country. Today, it’s not any kind of weekend or destination getaway but a great place to live, I would know, I grew up there. Like any small town, Putnam Lake, NY has its setbacks. It’s difficult to open any business and even harder to keep the doors open. These are some of the long vacant commercial properties of “The Lake.”
