Ah breakfast, the most important meal of the day. Some of us like to start things off with a bagel and cream cheese with a coffee, others with steel-cut oatmeal and a latte. There are a ton of small area deli's and diners that cater exclusively to the breakfast and lunch crowd. To get three masters in one area though is very rare. That's why I'm saying Woodbury, Connecticut is the Breakfast food capital of Connecticut. Within a couple of miles along Main Street North and South (Rt. 6) through the center of town, three locations are serving up a breakfast item that I believe can't be touched anywhere else in the Nutmeg State.

My first kudo goes to the breakfast croissants at Ovens of France, which is located at 660 Main Street South in Woodbury. Actually, everything that they sell at this hidden gem is astounding, but my heart skips a beat when I get my hands on their Ham and Cheese Croissant. My God, the perfect savory combination baked inside a crispy, yet soft croissant. They also make a chocolate croissant, which makes me feel like Icarus approaching a coronary with his wax wings it's so good, so I stick to the salty ham. Amazing. One of the most incredible items that you will eat for breakfast.

The next place is not so hidden, as they've been very discovered over the past decade or so. Dottie's Diner is located at 787 Main Street South in Woodbury, and they are rightfully known for their legendary donuts. This is one place that I can't wait to sit in again after this quarantine ends. The donuts that they serve up at Dottie's are a texture miracle. Listen, they taste as good as some of the best ones, but where Dottie's leaves the others behind is mouth feel. Combine that with usually classic flavors only, and you have a product that's been rightfully praised as one of the top donuts in the state.

Which brings me to my third master in the area, New Morning Market, which is located at 129 Main Street North in Woodbury. If you've never been, it's a stupendous local organic market that rivals, and is superior in my humble opinion, to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. The smoothie bar near the cafe area is in my opinion, one of the best in the state. For us here stuck in the middle of the greater Waterbury food desert, it's so convenient to not have to drive all the way to the mass aforementioned retailers in West Hartford or Danbury. New Morning provides the clean, organic products that you can't purchase in the Price Choppers or Bantam Markets.

Do yourself a favor, take a leisurely drive out to Woodbury on an upcoming warm morning and treat yourself to one of these items that I've told you about.
