According to a press release that we've just received from Detective Barbero from the Connecticut State Police - Troop A, here's what allegedly happened. At 7:58 AM this morning, Thursday June 16, 2022, Troop A received a report of a motor vehicle theft in progress near Exit 13 (River Road) in Southbury. According to eyewitnesses, a man had jumped out of a vehicle traveling on I-84, ran across the highway, and allegedly stole a construction worker's personal vehicle - a truck. The suspect then allegedly intentionally rammed two occupied state police cruisers that were parked in the center median of I-84.

A 300-yard foot pursuit followed, in which the suspect allegedly tried to take a State Trooper's firearm out of its holster, was partially subdued by civilian motorists, and ultimately subdued with a Taser deployment. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Robert Brown of Overvale Road in Wolcott, was taken into custody. Two Troopers were taken to local hospitals for minor injuries, as was Brown.

Brown was placed under arrest by Western District Major Crimes Detectives, and charged with:

  • Operating a Motor Vehicle Under Suspension
  • Reckless Driving
  • Larceny
  • Interference/Resisting
  • Assault on a Public Safety Officer
  • Criminal Possession of a Firearm
  • Criminal Attempt at 1st Degree Assault
  • Assault - 2nd Degree
  • Assault - 2nd Degree-Motor vehicle
  • Reckless Endangerment

Brown was unable to post the $1,000,000 bond set by the court, and is set to appear in Waterbury Superior Court tomorrow 6/17/22 at 10 AM.

I'm glad that the other workers on the Rochambeau Bridge were paying attention.
